17 December 1939 Graf Spee battleship scuttled

During the Battle of the River Plate on 13 December 1939, Admiral Graf Spee inflicted heavy damage on the British ships, but she also suffered damage and was forced to put into port at Montevideo.  Hans Langsdorff, the commander of the ship, ordered the vessel to be scuttled as he believed superior British forces would capture the vessel.
