1932  Franklin D Roosevelt wins landslide victory against sitting president Herbert Hoover.

1966  Edward Brooke, former Massachusetts Attorney General becomes the first black US Senator.

1974  Disappearance of ‘Lucky’ Lord Lucan from the family home in Belgravia, London. He is wanted for questioning regarding the murder of the family nanny.

1988  George Bush Snr comfortably wins US presidential election for Republican party against the Democrat candidate Michael Dukakis.
