“Hello” Thomas Carlyle – Born 4 December 1795
Thomas Carlyle (4 December 1795 – 5 February 1881) was a Scottish philosopher, essayist, historian and teacher during the Victorian era. He is noted as calling economics “the dismal science”.
Carlyle was from a strict Calvinist family and was expected to become a preacher by his parents. However, while at the University of Edinburgh he lost his Christian faith although maintaining his religious values.
