1 December 1990 Channel Tunnel construction teams meet under the Channel
British and French tunnellers celebrated today when they met face to face nearly 100 feet under the seabed for the first time since the Channel Tunnel project began.
Final breakthrough between the two ends of the 32-mile service tunnel was made with the last few yards being excavated by hand.
