1791  Death of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of 35.

1839  Birth of General George Armstrong Custer.

1870  Death of Alexandre Dumas, author of The Count of Monte Cristo and The Three Musketeers.

1945  Six US navy aircraft are lost in the Bermuda Triangle. Radio contact was lost with five bombers on a training flight so a sixth plane was sent to find them. Radio contact with the sixth plane was also lost.

1975  Birth of English snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan, nicknamed The Rocket.
